The Boconnoc Estate is very close to Deerpark Forest caravan and camp site. Many interesting events are held at Boconnoc and the details of these can be found at the above website. If there is an event being held during your visit to Deerpark Forest, a notice will be pinned above the recycling bins.
The magnificent 18th Century house has been extensively restored and is well worth a visit in it's own right in addition to attending various events.
If the lovely 15th Century Church is open that would be a real bonus. The church is perched on a terrace above the house and overlooking the glorious rolling parkland and woods. There is absolute stillness here and the strong sense of another time, another century. The church, which has a bell turret rather than a tower was restored in 1873.
The house and its surrounding estate is one of the best locations to visit in hidden Cornwall. It has one of the most beautiful of all spring gardens and still has camellias and azaleas from the original 1850 planting. Boconnoc has a very interesting history. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1087 and there was a battle at Braddock Down in 1643. There are approximately 100 head of deer in the Deer Park contained within the grounds and also a garden of 20 acres, which is open in the spring for various charities. Boconnoc House and Park have been used for numerous film locations including the BBC 'Poldark' series, Daphne du Maurier's 'My Cousin Rachel' and scenes from the 1993 film of 'The Three Musketeers'.
